Mathews, Virginia Man Killed In Fatal Single-Vehicle Car Accident
Mathews, VA – July 24 – A local man was killed Saturday afternoon in a fatal single-vehicle wreck.
According to official reports by dailypress.com, the accident occurred around 4:50 p.m. on Route 198.
Michael James Diggs, 22, was heading east in his 2008 Toyota Tacoma when he ran off the right side of the road.
Police said he overcorrected and ran off the left side of the road. His vehicle then overturned and crashed into a utility pole.
Diggs was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Jeremy Stephen Forrest, 20, was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center for treatment of nonfatal injuries.
Officials said the accident occurred on a slight curve in the roadway that was wet from rain. They do not yet know if alcohol played a factor in the crash.
