Smithfield Virginia Teen Dies As A Result Of A Drunk Driving Accident
Suffolk, VA – April 30 – A Smithfield, Virginia teen was pronounced dead late Sunday night after his friend ran off the road and crashed into a tree.
William James Newcomer, 17, of Portsmouth, was heading north on Cherry Grove Road around 2 a.m. when the accident happened, reports dailypress.com.
His passenger, Ian Michael Burgett, 18, sustained fatal injuries upon impact. The two teens were pinned inside the vehicle when police arrived on the scene.
Both teens were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where Burgett died a few hours later. Newcomer suffered from minor injuries.
Newcomer has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and failure to wear a seat belt.
