Gloucester, VA – May 18 – A Dutton, Virginia man was killed Wednesday, May 16, after being involved in a fatal head-on collision.
The accident occurred around 7:45 a.m. on Route 198 when Rebecca Jones Bass, 38, crashed her 2008 Ford F-150 pickup truck head-on into a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta, reports dailypress.com.
Stephen Rea Johnson, 47, was driving the Jetta at the time of the accident.
Virginia State Police said Bass was traveling west on Route 198 when she crossed over the centerline and struck Johnson, who was traveling in the eastbound lanes.
Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya said Johnson died at the scene of the accident. Bass was initially transported to Walter Reed Hospital and then taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News for treatment of nonfatal injuries.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Police said alcohol did not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
Investigations are ongoing.
