Monsanto’s Roundup Lawsuit
Monsanto, a corporation infamous for corrupting research on the toxicity of its Roundup herbicide, is in the midst of a major class-action lawsuit. The reason? The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified one of the primary ingredients in Roundup as probably carcinogenic to humans, and research has supported its carcinogenic properties for years.
Monsanto’s negligence has put many lives at risk with Roundup’s controversial ingredient list. In short, Monsanto’s Roundup product has been potentially linked to thousands of cancer cases across the globe.
Why is Monsanto’s Roundup so Dangerous?
Roundup contains an ingredient called glyphosate. In small doses, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers glyphosate a low-toxicity, Group E chemical; however, with greater and more long-term exposure, those who regularly use this herbicide could be exposed to greater toxic effects.
Research has found that the combination of ingredients found in Roundup can amplify the toxicity of glyphosate, killing healthy human cells and causing potentially fatal illnesses.
Tallowamine Can Lead to Birth Defects
According to Scientific American, “One specific inert ingredient, polyethoxylated tallowamine, or POEA, was more deadly to human embryonic, placental and umbilical cord cells than the herbicide itself.”
The research team also found that Roundup can cause immense harm to those who are pregnant by interfering with hormone development. The effect of this could be birth defects, miscarriage, or worse.
Can Roundup Cause Cancer?
While many studies have been done since Roundup’s introduction in 1974, most of those studies were done by Monsanto or focused on reasons glyphosate is safe for use rather than the toxicity of the product as a whole.
More recent findings, such as research published in Environmental Health Perspectives, focused on Roundup’s effect on cell damage (compared to that of glyphosate alone), finding that Monsanto’s “golden product” is not safe for use at all. What’s worse is that public spaces, including malls, parks, town centers, and even schools use Roundup regularly to manage their landscaping.
Monsanto’s Defense May Be in Jeopardy
Monsanto has won several Roundup lawsuits in the past. These victories have relied on an EPA assessment of glyphosate. This assessment states that the chemical is safe for human use.
However, in June of 2022, a federal court disregarded this EPA assessment. The court claimed that the EPA ignored research showing that Roundup exposures increase the risk of non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL). Similarly, the federal court agrees that many of the studies in the EPA assessment were produced by Monsanto themselves and were likely biased in Monsanto’s favor.
This development could benefit those pursuing lawsuits against Monsanto. If Monsanto cannot rely on the EPA assessment to mount a defense, what can it rely on to justify the science-backed consequences of the product?
What Is Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma?
Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL) is the type of cancer most frequently caused by Roundup use. Many prominent Roundup lawsuits involve victims suffering from NHL. NHL refers to a class of cancers that impact the body’s lymphatic system (an essential aspect of the immune system). This system runs throughout the body and is responsible for fighting off bacteria and viruses.
NHL typically appears in these regions of the body:
- Bone marrow
- Digestive tract
These parts of the body fight infection and build healthy immune cells. Without them, common infections can become more severe and difficult to treat.
Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Symptoms
These are some of the common symptoms of NHL:
- Coughing or difficulty breathing
- Swollen lymph nodes
- Weight loss
- Pain in the abdominal region
- Night sweats
If you believe that you have NHL, seek medical attention immediately. A doctor can diagnose your condition. In addition, confirmation from your doctor is the best way to document your injuries if you plan to file a lawsuit.
NHL is a potentially deadly condition. If you catch the cancer early on, your odds of survival are much higher. For this reason, we advise you to speak with a doctor as soon as you can. This is particularly true if you frequently use Roundup or have symptoms of NHL.
Monsanto Continues to Face the Victims of Their Negligence in Court
If you have been a victim of Monsanto’s negligence, you’re not alone. On March 27, 2019, Monsanto was found liable for its negligence and was court-ordered to pay over $80 million in damages as a result of Edwin Hardeman’s development of NHL.
Monsanto has made billions in profits on farmers’ and agricultural workers’ backs. They used biased data to make Roundup seem “safer than table salt” (as it was advertised after its release in 1974). It’s time to seek justice against those who manipulated scientific findings to sell a dangerous product.
Monsanto Trials Are Ongoing
As of September 2022, Monsanto lawsuits are still ongoing. Monsanto has offered settlements to Roundup victims to resolve many of these lawsuits. Several of these victims have outright refused these settlements due to their low valuation. According to The Guardian, Roundup trials will continue into 2023.
Thus far, Monsanto’s parent company Bayer has set aside or spent $16 billion on settling or resolving 108,000 of these cases since the Roundup lawsuits began.
Our team can advise you on participating in these lawsuits. We can explain the difference between individual lawsuits, multi-district litigation, and class-action lawsuits as well as which path would be best for your case.

The Kinds of Damages You Can Claim May Vary
As part of a multiplaintiff lawsuit, your specific damages may vary from others in the case. In an individual case, we carefully assess your recoverable damages to ensure no valid expenses are inadvertently overlooked or omitted.
The extent of your exposure to the harmful ingredient in Roundup and the impact it has on your health will also factor into your potentially recoverable damages. We take all these factors into consideration when assigning a financial value to your case.
How Much Time Do I Have to Sue Roundup’s Manufacturer?
The time you have to recover monetary damages by filing a civil lawsuit is governed by your state’s statute of limitations. When our law firm represents you, we will explain the relevant statute, which can vary according to your Roundup injuries and illnesses.
With sufficient notice from you, we will file your case on time. Doing so ensures your right to recover damages is never in jeopardy of an expired statute of limitations.
