Over 50,000 2012 Honda Civics Recalled Due To Defective Drive Shafts

June 19, 2012 by The Parrish Law Firm

Around 50,000 Honda Civics have been recalled due to defective drive shafts that weren’t installed to completion during assembly, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Honda Motor Co. announced the recall of certain models of their 2012 Honda Civic model year because of a problem with the car’s drive shaft, which wasn’t installed completely during assembly. This could lead to the drive shaft separating, which posses the risk of the car losing power unexpectedly or rolling away while the car is parked if the emergency brake isn’t applied.

The recall affects 50,190 2012 Honda Civics. Honda’s popular car dealt with production delays and is struggling to maintain its hold on dominancy in the compact-car market, facing strengthening competition from automakers like Hyundai, Ford and Chevrolet.

The recall is expected to start later in June, and owners of defective vehicles will be able to bring their car into any Honda dealer and have their drive shaft inspected and replaced if necessary with no charge. To contact Honda customer service, call 800-999-1009.
