Ma’at Mosley-White, an aspiring civil and family law attorney studying at Florida A&M University, is the winner of the 2024 Academic Scholarship sponsored by the Parrish Law Firm, PLLC.
Mosley-White’s Studies and Plans for a Bright Future
Mosley-White’s academic career at FAMU is off to a stellar start, with the Dean’s list scholar balancing her studies with serving the university as a campus tour guide. Mosley-White is majoring in Political Science with a minor in business. She hopes that her courses will serve as a strong foundation for her law school career.
However, she isn’t just studying and sitting on her laurels. Mosley-White:
- Conducts customized campus tours to more than 100 prospective students and families
- Is a 2025 Orientation Leader with the Office of New Student Orientation
- Is the Founding Historian of Project C, a student research organization that helps students drive social change through coaching, collaboration, and community-building
Mosley-White plans to use her education to “break the barriers of underrepresentation among Black women in law.” She hopes to be part of the very small percentage (only two percent) of Black female lawyers in the country.
She is not deterred by this small percentage, saying, “While this reality can seem daunting, it only strengthens my passion. This underrepresentation emphasizes the need for more voices like mine and motivates me to work to increase diversity and equity within the legal field.”
She hopes to use her career to advocate for underserved communities, especially those impacted by mental illness, family instability, and systemic injustice, which are areas that resonate with her because of her own upbringing.
Our Scholarship Winner Fought Through Difficult Circumstances to Get to Where She Is
Ma’at Mosley-White credits a challenging family environment, her parents’ divorce, and other related circumstances as experiences that required her to mature quickly. Living with other family members allowed her the stable environment she needed to succeed.
We wish Ma’at nothing but the best in her undergraduate studies and law school career. We know she’ll be a bright light in the legal space.
What Mosley-White Plans to Do With the Scholarship Money
When asked how the scholarship would affect her, Ma’at Mosley-White wrote that it would alleviate financial pressures, allowing her to focus on both her studies and preparation for law school. It would also support her “pursuit of legal experience through internships and paralegal opportunities,” which are essential to reaching her goal.
“More than anything, this scholarship would serve as a reminder that hard work, resilience, and
purpose-driven leadership are seen and supported. It would give me the freedom to continue
growing without limitations and bring me one step closer to becoming an attorney who advocates for justice and uplifts underserved communities.”
